About the Programme

Empowering Innovators

From Early Childhood Education classrooms to tertiary lecture halls, JETS & TETS cultivates Zambia's next generation of scientists, engineers and technicians.

Our History

Founded in 1968 by the Zambia Association for Science Education, JETS has run without interruption for over five decades — making it one of the country's longest-standing education programmes.

What began as a schools science club movement now reaches every province, every level of the education system, and, since 2025, tertiary institutions through TETS.

JETS & TETS Mission

To provide an inclusive, competence-driven and nationally coordinated STEM innovation platform spanning the full continuum of Zambian education.

The programme nurtures scientific curiosity, technical craftsmanship, innovative thinking and entrepreneurial capability among all participants — enabling the development, exhibition and commercialisation of STEM solutions that answer real community, national and regional challenges.

This work is aligned to the 2023 Zambia Education Curriculum Framework and the Vision 2030 national development aspirations.

The Programme Begins
Established in July 1968 by eminent scientists of the Zambia Association for Science Education (ZASE) to bring practical science to schools.

The Secretariat
A Permanent Home
The JETS Secretariat is established at the School of Engineering, University of Zambia.
1971
Expansion Plan
Eleven Regions Mapped
A roll-out plan is drawn up to carry JETS from a single campus to every region of the country.
1973
Nationwide
Eleven Regions Reached
JETS completes its roll-out to all eleven regions of Zambia.
1976
Presidential Directive
Village Development Category
President Kenneth Kaunda directs the creation of a Village Development project category, and introduces the Presidential Trophy.

Participation opens to primary school learners in Mathematics and Science.

Continental Interest
Ghana Science Fair Group
A Ghanaian science fair group competes at the JETS Fair at the University of Zambia — the first participation from beyond Zambia.

Addresses public health solutions, nutrition systems, food security and water safety.
